 History

The imagery in the Somewhere In Our Historical Memory series includes wallpaper patterns and details from two different engravings: one by an anonymous artist working from a water colour by Charles Heaphy of the scene for the week-long meeting in 1853 between local iwi and the authorities from Auckland to discuss conditions for allowing the diggings on the Coromandel goldfields; the second of British soldiers carrying firewood on a stretcher near Petone.
